In recent decades, social media use has significantly skyrocketed. Facebook alone has increased to over 2 billion users in the past 10 years. With the extreme popularity and rise of this platform usage, one-in-three people in the world now use social media, as do more than two-thirds of all internet users (Our World in Data). This trend has altered every aspect of life on a micro and macro scale. We interact differently than before and rely on the Internet for the majority of our knowledge, as well as how we determine our own values and morals (or how we gather other’s). It has taken the front seat driving our lives, literally and figuratively. It seems strange to part ways from a cellular device and most cannot fathom this concept, even for a day. Dependence on these devices is at an all-time high. The question this begs is how deep does it run? And how is it affecting how we perceive and live our daily lives?
